Abstract

This work is focused on a monitoring campaign carried out in a territory of about 267,56 km2 situated in Calabria (Italy), involving thecities of Crotone and Strongoli. This area is the site of a biomass power plant and abandoned industrial metallurgic settlement, located close to cultivate lands and local farms. The monitoring campaign of air particulate included: the city centers of Crotone and Strongoli, the area of biomass power plant in Strongoli marina, the disused industrial settlement of Pertusola and the industrial field close to the city of Crotone. For each site a blank spot was selected in order to evaluate the background environmental concentrations of pollutants in terms of PM10 and 2.5, among which asbestos and other minerals with fibrous shapes.
