Abstract

The sheet 407 "San Bartolomeo in Galdo": new data on geologic knowledge of the Southern Apennines in the Puglia Region. The area of Sheet 407 "San Bartolomeo in Galdo" is located in Southern Italy, in the northwestern part of the Apulia, not far from the boundaries with Campania and Molise regions. From a geographic point of view the investigated area includes part of the external side of the Appennino Dauno and the more internal part of the Tavoliere delle Puglie. The Daunia Apennine consists of several Cretaceous to Pliocene lithostratigraphic units, arranged in two main tectonic units which began to develop from late Oligocene up to Pliocene. The aim of this paper is to show the main results of the geological survey which help to clarify some of the stratigraphical and structural problems of the Southern Apennines.
